The WALL-E Effect

So in late September 2008, we went to an early evening screening of "WALL-E". Later that night our first daughter Charlotte was born.

Move forward to early May 2011, and Charlotte's sibling was becoming increasingly overdue. Having tried all the usual old wive's tales, on a whim we watched "WALL-E" again.

The next day (yesterday), our second daughter Sophie was born.
Welcome to your world new daughter of mine :)
In relieved contrast to her sister's arrival, Sophie is happy, healthy and awesome. As are her mother and sister. Although I am wondering if the labelling on "WALL-E" DVD's might need amending for viewers in a delicate condition...

Two years ago

On a blustery spring night just like tonight our wee girl was born. And we were about to get a big early lesson in some of the bits of parenting they don't mention in the brochures.

I wrote a quick appraisal then after a long day, posted here. Fi's account here of our first few days as parents is worth revisiting too. It was a hell if a ride, but we were grateful all the same when we finally got her home three weeks later. Others have had to deal with worse.

So two years on, she is now a proper little girl, her last routine check up with the surgeon ended with a "see you in a couple of years unless something comes up", and her last routine check up with her paedeatrician ended with "we don't need to see you again unless there is something wrong". She still has issues swallowing some foods, which will improve as she gets older, but other than that she is perfect in every way. In my opinion at least.

I could do the 'letter to my kid' thing but that isn't really my style, so I will just say "Happy Birthday my pretty little girl!" for when she is old enough to read this...and hopefully not be mortified by her father's public ramblings :)

Because boys can post cute pictures too

Listening to: Capricornia - Midnight Oil (2001). I've been rereading a history of the band, so on something of an MO kick at the moment. My first favourite band.

Some shots of my girl(s). I like that they are imperfect images; to me they have a bit more character and feel like true snapshots. They remind me a little of some pictures of me as a wee person.

There are heaps of other things I'd like to say about these pics but can't find the right words for; suffice to say if I'd known I would have had a daughter like her I wouldn't have had so many reservations about becoming a father. She's cool.
